To do a healing meditation on any specific chakra, we should locate the chakra related to the physical or emotional problem that we are experiencing. However, it is always better to do full chakra meditation starting from root chakra in ascending order i.e., from lower chakras to higher chakras in full chakra meditation. To heal specific issues, chakras connected to those issues should be meditated upon.

a) Create a safe and protected place where you can spend time meditating without being disturbed.

b) Either lie down or sit comfortably.

c) Place or visualize the appropriate stone or colour on the chakra you want to heal.

d) Focus your breath on the spot where you have placed the stone or your visualization.

e) Taking one chakra at a time, inhale the positive, loving energy of each chakra and exhale all the impurities.

f) With your exhale breath, say and feel the vibration of the sound (mantra) associated with the chakra.

g) Make an intention that all negativities are returned by you to earth for purification.

h) Feel the appropriate colour vibrations in each chakra. Healing and cleansing strengthen each energy centre. Crystals can also be used if visualization of colour looks difficult.

i) Express gratitude.

j) When completed slowly open your eyes.

k) Drink plenty of water after this meditation is over.

You will feel mentally relaxed after completing this meditation. It will also help in cleansing and opening all the chakras. This may help in the proper functioning of each chakra.

Chakra Explained:

The word “Chakra” is derived from the Sanskrit word that means ‘wheel’ or ‘turning’. As per Wikipedia, Chakra is the centre of Prana, life or vital energy. Chakras correspond to vital points in the physical body i.e., major plexuses of arteries, veins and nerves. Texts and teachings present different numbers of chakras. Mainly, there are seven types of chakras and it carries the colour of the rainbow spectrum.

These chakras, or energy centres, function as pumps or valves, regulating the flow of energy through our energy system. The functioning of the chakras reflects the decisions we make, and how we respond towards life and life issues. There are seven main chakras in the human body. They are named below: –

a) Base/Root Chakra (Muladhara)

b) Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)

c) Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

d) Heart Chakra (Anahata)

e) Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

f) Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

g) Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Function of Chakras

Each Chakra is associated with a particular part of the body and gland.  When the chakras are balanced and energy is flowing freely, a sense of physical well-being is achieved.

When the physical body is in a state of well-being, the mind is at ease.  When chakras are balanced and energy is flowing freely, a state of mental clarity is attained.

When the chakras are balanced and energy is flowing freely, our energetic vibration rate rises. This allows us to experience more of our true divine nature and connection with the sea of Universal Life energy. That which permeates all things.

Chakras get blocked due to emotional and mental disorders in the body and mind. Due to this, different types of imbalances occur in the human body. This creates issues in the proper functioning of chakras. Because of such imbalance, there may be problems in the proper functioning of glands and organs connected to those chakras.

Anil Bhatnagar in his book “Turn your life around with Reiki” states: “Normally, the chakras spin very fast, sucking the universal energy into our body and directing our hormonal secretions. However, as we grow older, we develop negative patterns of thinking and living that slow down some or all of the chakras and sometimes even reverse their direction, causing an energy imbalance that results in various diseases and accelerates the ageing process.”

In the following discussion, we shall understand more about each chakra. We shall see the related mantra or sound which if recited helps in strengthening the chakras. We will also figure out the kinds of diseases which may occur if the chakra is blocked or is malfunctioning.
