The Mahalakshmi Ashtakam has been taken from the Padma Puran. The Stotram relates to Indra Deva who acquired prosperity by worshipping Mahalakshmi through the recitation of this Stotram. This Stotra has been recommended for daily recitation also.

Deepawali is the time for Lakshmi Sadhana or Sri Sadhana when in freshly painted houses, offices and shops both Lakshmi and Ganesh are worshipped together. While Lakshmi is associated with “Subh” (auspicious) and “Laabh” (gain). Ganeshji is associated with Riddhi (prosperity) and Siddhi (competence). Both are worshipped in an absolutely clean environment with a dazzling decoration of light.

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and consort of Lord Vishnu who provides wealth for the sustenance of creation. Sri is the Beejmantra of Lakshmi. Sri means noble which helps in securing excellence in life. Sri ensures that self-consciousness becomes pure, the intellect becomes sharp and the body gains health and nourishment.

Lakshmi is the provider of wealth, happiness and prosperity. She helps in achieving the Lakshya (objective) of life. Her worship on Deepawali day helps the devotee in getting rid of negative energies like anger, delusion and envy. Lakshmi is gained as an outcome of good deeds. On Deepawali day Lakshmi removes the darkness enveloping consciousness, intellect and character.
