Importance of Drekkana in Medical Astrology
Drekkanas are supposed to play an important role in disease. Almost all astrology classics stress their role in locating the site of disease in the body. The three Drekkanas represent three divisions of the body.
The three Drekkanas represent three divisions of the body; the first one extends from the head to the mouth; the second from the neck to the navel; and the third from the pelvis to the feet. The parts of the body on the right side are represented in houses 2 to 6; those on the left side are in houses 8 to 12.

The presence of malefic planets in a particular Drekkana may cause would of ulcers there. If benefics too are influencing those drekkana it may cause mole or a mark at the place.
The Drekkana Chart: Drekkana is crucial in medical astrology as many times it provides knowledge about the exact place of ailments. In Drekkana each sign is divided into three parts of 10 degrees. The first part belongs to the sign itself, the second to the sign falling in the fifth house, the third to the sign falling in the ninth house. The following table will explain it.

Twenty-second Drekkana from the ascendant is very important in medical astrology. Dasa of planets placed in the Twenty-second Drekkana or evil transits on Twenty-second Drekkana can trigger health hazards. Likewise, Pasha drekkana i.e., the second drekkana of Scorpio can also cause adverse situations in life including Capital punishments. These drekkana positions have to be carefully analysed both for health and longevity analysis.
a) The twenty-second Drekkana: The twenty-second Drekkana is the Drekkana that falls exactly seven houses away from the Lagna. It thus falls in the eighth house at the same degree as Lagna. Place the degree of the Lagna in the sign occupying the eighth house of the birth chart and determine its Drekkana. The lord of that sign and the planets falling in that sign in the Drekkana chart are evil and capable of causing death and disease. When a Drekkana chart is cast, the eighth house of this chart indicates the Twenty-second Drekkana. The lord of this house as well as planets falling in that house prove malefic.
b) Sarpa Drekkana: The second and third Drekkanas of the sign Cancer, the first and the second of the sign Scorpio, and the last Drekkana of the sign Pisces are termed as Sarpa (serpent) Drekkanas. Planets falling in these Drekkanas tend to produce ill health during their periods and sub-periods if other factors also indicate this.
